The article I have read about teen smoking is called, “Marijuana
Use Growing Among Teenagers.” This article was published on December 14, 2011.
I read this article on New York Times, http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/14/marijuana-growing-in-popularity-among-teenagers.
The use of Marijuana is growing rapidly that at least one out of every 15 high
school students smokes marijuana on a daily basis. The age group is starting to
lower down to 10th graders smoking marijuana. People are seeing that
marijuana is getting more popular because of legalizing it for medical use.
Apparently, medical marijuana is legal in at least 16 states, like Colorado and
the District of Columbia. This is surprising to me because I didn’t think the
legalization of medical marijuana would be this soon. I thought they would
legalize it down the road, years later. Now they surveyed over 46,000 students
who have tried marijuana, the results were about 25 percent of 8th
graders, 10th graders, and 12th graders have reported
using marijuana. It is shocking that it goes down to 8th graders
that are using marijuana, they are barely still junior high kids that aren’t
even close to being able to smoke. There is another product that is also
becoming popular to teens. It is called synthetic marijuana which is a mixture
of herbs and chemicals, also known as “spice” or “K2.” The reason why this is
popular now is because it has been sold legally in convenience stores and gas stations.
Surprisingly, the percentages of using different types of drugs are going down,
such as cocaine, crack, and sedatives. I think that is good, but now they need
to work on lowering the use of marijuana.
I find this blog pretty interesting. Mainly because i think teenagers taht start smoking weed at such a young age is comeletly ridiculous. I dont know why they find it so much fun and normal. It messes with your head and only makes you a different person. I also believe thatit has to do with who you hang out with and what you put yourself at risk for. No one ever makes you smoke pot its really all up you. Some kids ithink do it to get attention or be cool with their friends. Some even say because it makes then more relaxed and focused but i think it just makes them talk slower and make them look stupid. I dont see why they do it if they could do other things that wouldbe alot more fun like go out and throw a baseball around or go for a run that could also be relaxing and calming, or even yoga haha. Making marijuana legal only was good for trying to stop drug dealers work from going on. It isnt helping anyone with anything they could have found another way to make it medically legal. Some people just didnt think of the pros and cons about this issue. I just hope they all realize pot isnt good for anything or anyone!
ReplyDeleteThis article was intersecting to read about because it talks about how many high school kids that are using marijuana, like at lease 1 out of 15 students use marijuana. It’s fascinating to read that the age is getting younger and younger, as young as sophomores in high school are now using the marijuana. But with today’s generation I think high school kids young as freshman are probably using it now. And I to think it is beginning to spread everywhere because of the legalization of marijuana in some countries in the United States, I did not know that there was so many states as much as 16 that have marijuana legal. And I to didn’t know that it would be legalized this early, I thought it would have be legal until 10 years from now. And it’s very shocking news to find out that kids, no junior high kids that now use marijuana in other states. Including the United states. but to heard that a drug similar to marijuana is being soled in stores which is called “spice” or “K2” but really called a synthetic marijuana which I think I saw, a shocking result when under the influence of the drug on the news. About that one homeless guy that got his face chewed off by a guy that had used that drug, and lost his life to the drug. Overall this article was a real eye opener to my knowledge about marijuana.
