The article I have read for teenage smoking is called, “Study:
More Teens Smoking Pot Than Cigarettes.” This article was published on June 11,
2012. I got this article online on the Time Magazine website, http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/06/11/study-more-teens-smoking-pot-than-cigarettes.
What I have read about on this article was that teens are looking more to
smoking marijuana than cigarettes. The reason is because most teens are getting
the message about what cigarettes can do to you and can cause lung cancer. I
guess they learned from all the anti-smoking campaigns, personal experiences,
and through family members that suffered from this condition. So they think smoking marijuana will be safer
because it wouldn’t cause any harm. That is not true though, what they don’t
know is that marijuana has a long-term effect on learning and memory. Their
minds could be damaged and wouldn’t be able to learn as well as they use to and
even to remember things, events, and so forth. Marijuana contains 50-70 percent
more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco does. When researchers did a survey
last year, the results were that twenty-seven percent of high school students
were smoking pot than cigarettes. Then eighteen percent were smoking cigarettes
still, and this was out of 15,000 students in high school. This is still crazy
and I think these teens still need a lot to learn about marijuana and what it
could do to them because there is so much more that goes on with this type of
drug also. Even though people say marijuana is some-what a stress reliever, I don’t
believe it at all. All they are doing is losing their memory and learning
abilities.
When reading this article I thought it was interesting because I didn’t know about some of the stuff you said about marijuana. I thought this article was true that more teens smoke pot more than cigarettes since they know what it can do to you. I didn’t know that marijuana was more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco. I knew what marijuana did to our brain that it cause memory lose and harder to learn new things. I think it’s good for teens to read or hear things like this so they can think twice on smoking pot so it won’t affect their future. I think that’s why some of the people I know stop smoking pot and cigarettes so they can live a healthy life. I think when others see friends or people they know smoking they want to fit in and think that smoking pot is better then cigarettes just cause you don’t get things that would effect your health or body. When reading this it made me feel good that I stopped smoking pot cause I didn’t know what it could really do. I don’t think marijuana is a stress reliever or what other people say about it. I think reading this article was a good idea because now I can tell others but what it can do and how it’s not better than cigarettes. I don’t think any drug is good for our bodies and not harmful.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very interesting to read. I get why they choose to use marijuana than cigarettes since they read that cigarettes give you cancers. They have not read anywhere that marijuana does so they use it plus they can buy it from anyone than to get ID when buying cigarettes. There are a lot of reasons behind a lot of teens smoke marijuana since they get high from it than cigarettes and they say that it relaxes them. A lot of teens know what inside of cigarettes than they do in marijuana plus I think that since researchers say it helps with cancers so they think it’s okay to smoke it. Marijuana contains 50-70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco does. That’s something I didn’t know at all. When researchers did a survey last year, the results were that twenty-seven percent of high school students were smoking pot than cigarettes. That’s interesting since they can by more marijuana than a pack of cigarettes. Then eighteen percent were smoking cigarettes still, and this was out of 15,000 students in high school. I think that if they knew more about what the cause and effects of what marijuana can do they may or not use it. I guess they don’t mind losing their memory than to get cancer so they use it. While reading this it basically put it out there to the readers that don’t make a big deal on marijuana cause it’s not as harmful as cigarettes unless you want to lose your memory cells. A lot of this falls on the teens to make the right choices.
